What is Carbon Fiber?

Jul 22, 2024

Carbon fiber (CF for short) is an inorganic fiber with a carbon main chain structure with a carbon content of more than 90% formed by the cracking and carbonization of organic fibers such as polyacrylonitrile (or asphalt, viscose) under high temperature conditions. It is the fiber with the highest specific strength and specific modulus among the mass-produced high-performance fibers currently available, and is widely used in aerospace, rail transit, shipbuilding vehicles, new energy and other fields.

Carbon fiber is less than 1/4 of steel in weight, but 7 to 9 times stronger than steel, and has super corrosion resistance, so it is called "black gold" and "king of new materials". Baseball bats, tennis rackets, bicycles, cars, wind turbine blades, airplanes, launch vehicles... Carbon fiber has a wide range of applications.
