3240 and FR4 are the two most widely used epoxy boards in the current sales market. Everyone says that FR-4 epoxy board is better than 3240. What are the differences between them?
Difference 1: The color is crystal clear.
The color tone of FR4 is very natural, a bit jade like, while the color tone of 3240 epoxy board is a bit blinking. It doesn't seem very natural. Most of the tones are not very symmetrical.
Difference 2: FR4 has a good flame retardant rating.
FR4 is an improved version of 3240 epoxy board. The flame retardant grade of FR-4 epoxy board can meet the UL94V-0 standard in China. 3240 epoxy board does not have a flame retardant rating.
Difference three: The FR4 specification has good reliability.
The reliability of FR4 specifications is better than that of 3240, and the control of the thickness tolerance of FR4 throughout the entire process is also much better than that of 3240, making it more suitable for production and processing.
Difference 4: FR4 has no radiation or environmental protection.
3240 epoxy board is halogenated and not very environmentally friendly for both the natural environment and the body. None of them are in line with China's sustainable development strategy of emerald green. The FR-4 epoxy board is the opposite.
Difference 5: Low water absorption capacity.
Its water absorption capacity (D-24/23, plate thickness 1.6 mm): ≤ 19mg, which provides excellent assistance for its use in wet cooling machines such as transformers.
Difference 6: FR4 can self extinguish the flame.
FR4 can have a natural extinguishing effect in the event of a fire.
Due to the excellent properties of FR-4 epoxy board, the preferred raw materials for insulation layer components in high-end household appliances and electronic industries nowadays are mostly used in FR4. However, 3240 epoxy board has a certain sales market at this stage due to its very cheap price.
