What are the differences between epoxy resin and unsaturated resin?

Jul 19, 2024

Epoxy resin and unsaturated resin are both commonly used resins in projects, especially FRP products. The difference between epoxy resin and unsaturated resin lies mainly in their characteristics, uses and composition.

1. Different characteristics: Epoxy resin is characterized by high compression and tensile strength, and can still maintain good mechanical properties under long-term exposure to high temperature conditions, and has good arc resistance, UV aging resistance and weather resistance. The characteristics of unsaturated resin are light weight, high strength, good corrosion resistance, excellent electrical properties, unique thermal properties, excellent processing performance, and good material designability.

2. Different uses: Epoxy resin is mainly used in the coating industry and the electronics industry. Epoxy for composite molding (mainly used in printed circuit boards in the electronics industry) accounts for a quarter. Unsaturated resin is mainly used in the construction field, FRP pipes, tanks, tanks and other anti-corrosion products and projects, FRP vehicles, FRP boats, FRP amusement equipment, FRP transportation equipment, labor protection and security products, etc.

3. Different composition: Epoxy resin is a general term for a class of polymers containing two or more epoxy groups in the molecule. It is the condensation product of epichlorohydrin and bisphenol A or polyols. Unsaturated resin refers to a polymer compound containing unsaturated double bonds generated by the condensation reaction of dibasic acid and diol.
