What are the types and applications of laminates?

Dec 25, 2024

According to the type of reinforcement material used. Laminates can be divided into paper laminates, wood laminates, cotton fiber laminates, asbestos fiber laminates, glass fiber laminates, carbon fiber laminates, etc.

In recent years, composite fiber laminates with thermoplastic and thermoisotropic resins have also appeared, which are used to assemble various chemical containers and building sinks. Paper laminates are mainly used to manufacture electrical insulation components (various trays, terminal blocks, insulating coils, pads, covers, etc.). In addition, thin sheets can be used to manufacture desktop panels, loading and unloading panels, clinics, cabins, carriages, aircraft cabins, furniture, radio and TV housings, etc. Due to the poor water resistance of paper laminates, they are not suitable for use in humid conditions to avoid warping.

Cotton fiber laminates, also known as cotton cloth laminates. Cotton cloth laminates have high physical and mechanical properties, good oil resistance, and a certain degree of water resistance. Therefore, in the machinery manufacturing industry, they are mostly used to manufacture washers, bushings, bearings, pulleys, silent gears, etc. Using plastic bearings made of cotton cloth laminates to replace metal (Babbitt alloy and bronze) bearings will increase their service life several times and greatly reduce the wear rate of the machine journal. In addition, bearings made of cotton cloth laminates can also be used in ball mills, centrifugal pumps, turbines and other machines.
