The difference between GPO-3 fiberglass mat and electronic fiberglass cloth core

1, Infrastructure and Technology (Fundamental Differences)

1. GPO-3 specialized fiberglass mat(short cut felt, non-woven fabric)

-Form: Non woven, randomly spread with short cut glass fibers of about 50mm, bonded into felt sheets with adhesive
-Fiber orientation: isotropic, with similar horizontal and vertical strength
-Appearance: Large pores, fluffy, and extremely high resin absorption capacity
-Application positioning: Insulation board substrate, specialized in making GPO-3 laminated boards (busbar partitions, low-voltage insulation components)

2. Electronic fabric (electronic grade fiberglass fabric, woven fabric)

-Form: Woven plain weave fabric, interwoven with continuous long fiberglass yarn warp and weft
-Fiber orientation: oriented in both warp and weft directions, with small differences in warp and weft strength but significant directionality
-Appearance: dense, thin, uniform pores, low adhesive absorption
-Application positioning: PCB/copper-clad FR-4 substrate (circuit board skeleton)

2, Raw materials and glass system

1. GPO3 felt
Ordinary alkali free E-glass fiber, with loose control over single fiber fineness and impurities; The binder is polyester/powder lotion, which is suitable for unsaturated polyester and melamine resin.
2. Electronic cloth
High purity electronic grade E-glass with alkali metal content<0.8%; Single filament extremely fine (4-7 μ m); Full process desizing, silane coupling precision treatment, strict control of impurities and fuzz, ensuring high-frequency electrical performance.

3, Key performance comparison

1. Mechanical properties

-GPO3 felt: isotropic, good resistance to interlayer tearing, easy to mold; The tensile strength is lower than that of electronic fabric; Thickness can be made of thick felt (300-900g/㎡)
-Electronic cloth: high warp and weft strength, extremely strong dimensional stability, low thermal expansion CTE; Thin and lightweight (48-204g/㎡, 1080/2116/7628), with extremely high flatness to prevent PCB warping

2. Electrical insulation (core distinguishing point)

-GPO3 felt: meets the standard for power frequency insulation, has high dielectric loss, poor high-frequency performance, and is not suitable for high-speed signal transmission; Main features include arc resistance and resistance to electric leakage and tracing (core advantages of GPO3 board)
-Electronic fabric: low Dk, low Df, extremely low dielectric loss, suitable for high-frequency PCBs of 5G and AI servers; Uniform and stable insulation, meeting the insulation requirements of precision circuits

3. Resin infiltration and molding

-GPO3 felt: fluffy and porous, high resin content, good toughness after pressing into a board, resistant to punching and cutting, and can be bent for processing; Suitable for thick insulation boards and irregular insulation parts
-Electronic cloth: dense structure, less resin filling, high rigidity, thin and flat board; Only capable of hot pressing flat thin plates, unable to produce thick ones, with poor bending performance

4. Heat resistance and dimensional stability

-GPO3 felt: with a relatively high coefficient of thermal expansion, it is prone to slight deformation at high temperatures; Emphasis on arc resistance and flame retardancy
-Electronic fabric: ultra-low CTE, almost unchanged high-temperature dimensions, multi-layer PCB without warping, excellent long-term thermal stability

4, Downstream finished products and application scenarios

GPO3 fiberglass felt → GPO-3 insulation board

Low voltage distribution cabinets, bus insulation partitions, circuit breaker insulation components, new energy bus bars, motor insulation pads, stamped insulation gaskets; Electrical insulation structural components.

Electronic cloth → FR-4 copper-clad board/PCB

Mobile phones, servers, 5G base stations, vehicle mounted circuit boards, IC carrier boards; Electronic circuit board.

5, Cost and processing differences

1. GPO3 felt: simple process and low unit price; Suitable for thick plates, large sizes, and punching processing
2. Electronic fabric: ultra fine yarn+precision weaving+desizing surface treatment, high production cost; Ultra thin and high-precision, can only make precision thin plates

Quick Summary Comparison Table
